“Thanks for talking…” – You
What’s So Funny About Drugs & Alcohol?
Marshall talks to college students, businesses, and anyone who needs to hear the message about the negative side of drugs and alcohol and the truth of what advertisers are telling our society.
Advertisers continually push drugs and alcohol as the reason to celebrate, relax or hook-up. You can not drive down the road, listen to the radio, or watch TV without being told to drink alcohol. And let us all remember, ALCOHOL IS A DRUG. They may be pushing alcohol, but what that tells people is that drugs are the answer to being happy and social. So if you want to be in a group that does pot or coke, etc, then you will do pot or coke, etc.
Take all this into consideration that the pharmacy companies spend billions telling YOU to ask YOUR doctor about being prescribed a drug. What they are insinuating is that it is OK to self-medicate. So if you dont have insurance, then go get whatever drug you need to take in order to feel better. And a really sad part about self-medication is that most people who are depressed end up being addicted to drugs and alcohol through self-medication.
As a comedian, Marshall has seen his fair share of drugs and alcohol and knows that they are not what they appear to be. He shares with people what it is like to be a comedian in recovery, what got him to recovery, and why he stays in recovery. He has worked with, and friends with, some of the biggest names in the business and knows that most of the top comedians are not “partiers.” And he has observed that the lower level comedians think it is all about “partying” and yet, can’t figure out why they can’t get ahead?!?!
Marshall understands that many people think there is no life after drugs and alcohol, but he knows first hand that there is a much better life… and has plenty of jokes about getting clean and sober.
